Registered Nurse Visits for NDIS Participants
A nursing visit primarily focuses on providing, monitoring or reviewing care.

Loica Care provides planned Registered Nurse visits for NDIS participants who require disability-related nursing support.
Visits may be provided in the participant’s home, supported accommodation or another agreed community setting, depending on location, clinical suitability and service availability.
Our nurses focus on the whole person—not only the nursing task. We consider the participant’s comfort, dignity, safety, communication needs, daily routine, preferences and personal goals.
What is a Registered Nurse visit?
A Registered Nurse visit is a planned appointment to provide, monitor or review nursing care.
The visit may be:
- A one-off nursing visit
- Part of an ongoing care schedule
- A review following a change in the participant’s needs
- Required to implement or update a nursing care plan
- Used to monitor whether current nursing strategies are working
- Arranged to provide participant-specific education or training
The type and frequency of visits are based on the participant’s assessed needs. Nursing visits should not continue more often than clinically required.
Who may benefit from nursing visits?
Nursing visits may be appropriate when a participant:
- Cannot safely manage a disability-related health need independently
- Requires nursing knowledge or clinical judgement
- Needs regular wound or skin care
- Requires continence or catheter-related support
- Has an increased risk of pressure injuries or skin breakdown
- Requires monitoring under an established nursing or medical plan
- Has experienced a change in their health or functional abilities
- Needs a nursing care plan developed, implemented or reviewed
- Requires support workers or family members to receive participant-specific training
- Has recently returned home and requires ongoing disability-related nursing support
New illnesses, acute injuries and post-hospital treatment are not automatically NDIS responsibilities. The appropriate funding and healthcare pathway must be considered before services commence.
What can Loica Care assist with?
Depending on the participant’s assessment, clinical instructions and individual funding, nursing visits may include:
Wound and skin care
- Wound assessment and measurement
- Wound cleansing and dressing changes
- Monitoring wound progress
- Protecting the surrounding skin
- Pressure injury prevention
- Skin-integrity checks
- Repositioning and pressure-care guidance
- Escalation when a wound is deteriorating or not healing
Continence support
- Monitoring bladder and bowel concerns
- Implementing continence-management plans
- Catheter-related care within the nurse’s scope
- Skin care associated with incontinence
- Reviewing continence products and leakage concerns
- Supporting safe toileting routines
- Monitoring constipation and bowel-management strategies
- Identifying concerns requiring medical review
Disability-related health monitoring
- Relevant clinical observations
- Monitoring identified health risks
- Reviewing changes in the participant’s condition
- Monitoring the effectiveness of an established care plan
- Recognising and reporting deterioration
- Communicating concerns to the participant’s healthcare team with consent
Medication-related nursing support
- Administering medication under a valid prescription or clinical order
- Monitoring and documenting the participant’s response
- Supporting safe medication practices
- Identifying concerns requiring review by the prescriber, pharmacist or GP
The NDIS does not generally fund the cost of medicines, medical diagnosis or prescribing.
Care planning and education
- Developing and reviewing nursing care plans
- Establishing clear monitoring and escalation instructions
- Teaching participants and families about agreed care strategies
- Providing participant-specific training to support workers
- Clarifying which tasks require a nurse
- Supporting consistent care across the participant’s team
- Recommending referral to a GP or another health professional when required
Other complex or higher-risk procedures are accepted only after clinical review and confirmation that Loica Care is appropriately authorised, qualified and resourced to provide the support safely.
What information is recorded?
Following each visit, the nurse completes a clinical progress note. Depending on the care provided, this may include:
- The participant’s condition and concerns
- Relevant clinical observations
- Care or treatment provided
- Products or equipment used
- The participant’s response
- Education provided
- Changes from previous visits
- Identified risks
- Communication with other people
- Escalation or referrals
- The plan for the next visit
A separate formal nursing report may be prepared when it forms part of the agreed service.
Nursing visits and nursing assessments are different
A nursing visit primarily focuses on providing, monitoring or reviewing care.A comprehensive nursing assessment has a broader purpose. It examines the participant’s overall disability-related nursing needs and usually results in a detailed report containing clinical evidence and recommendations.Loica Care can explain which service is more appropriate before an appointment is arranged.
Can nursing visits be funded by the NDIS?
The NDIS may fund a nurse to provide disability-related health support when the support:
- Relates to the participant’s disability
- Helps manage the disability’s effect on everyday life
- Requires appropriate nursing knowledge or skills
- Meets the applicable NDIS funding requirements
- Is more appropriately funded by the NDIS than the healthcare system
Examples may include disability-related continence, wound and pressure care, catheter support, diabetes management and participant-specific training.The current NDIS Pricing Schedule describes these nursing items as “Delivery of Health Supports by a Registered Nurse.” However, having an NDIS plan does not automatically mean every nursing visit can be paid for using NDIS funding.Read about NDIS disability-related health supports.
Our 72-hour service target
For non-emergency referrals, Loica Care aims to review the referral and arrange or commence an appropriate nursing visit within 72 hours of initial contact.This target depends on:
- The participant’s location and availability
- Clinical urgency
- Nurse availability
- Informed consent
- Receipt of essential clinical information
- Valid medication or treatment orders where required
- Availability of necessary products and equipment
- Confirmation that Loica Care can safely provide the requested service
When a formal nursing report forms part of the agreed service, Loica Care aims to complete it within 72 hours after the visit and receipt of all required evidence.
Important emergency information
Loica Care provides scheduled nursing services and is not an emergency or hospital-in-the-home service.
